A note on conflicting figures. Kingsman's website and Kingsman's current dealer price list do not agree on this model — the website lists 30,250 BTU and a smaller viewing area. We publish the price list figures because that is the current dealer document, but we flag the discrepancy rather than hide it. A ceramic-glass version (MCVST42NH/LPH) is also offered at higher efficiency; because published output figures for it conflict between sources, ask us to confirm the exact rating for your configuration before you order rather than relying on any published number, ours included.
The 43-inch name comes from the 43 1/8" framing width; MCVST42 is Kingsman's model designation. Give your builder the framing dimensions, not the viewing area.
Tempered or ceramic: the choice that changes the most
Kingsman offers the Clean View 43 with either tempered or ceramic glass, and across the Clean View range that choice is the single largest efficiency variable — on the comparable ZCV39, ceramic lifts fireplace efficiency from roughly 53% to roughly 66% for a modest gain in output.
The trade-off is price, and it is steep here: the ceramic MCVST42 lists at roughly $8,100 against roughly $5,700 for the tempered model. If the fireplace is primarily a focal point, tempered is the sensible buy. If you are genuinely trying to heat two rooms with it, the efficiency gain is what you are paying for.
What makes a see-through fireplace different
A see-through (double-sided) fireplace has glass on both faces and no solid back, so you look straight through the flame from either room. The Clean View 43 carries the same clean-face presentation as the rest of the family: no louvers, no visible frame, just a wide flame across a generous viewing area on both sides. Used between a living and dining space, or framing the open side of a great room, it creates a focal point a single-sided fireplace cannot match.
Because both faces are finished and visible, the unit becomes part of the architecture rather than something pushed against a wall. Finish both sides with your choice of media — an eight-piece Kingsman oak log set, a six-piece driftwood set, or a glass tray with bronze media or cannonballs — plus your choice of liner. Safety screens are included for both faces.
The heat: 30,500 BTU across two rooms
That output is serving two spaces rather than one. Treat the Clean View 43 as supplemental heat for two rooms, not primary heat for either. A fan kit (Z46FK) helps distribute what it produces.
Configuration and power outages
Available in natural gas or propane, with Millivolt or IPI electronic ignition. Kingsman specifies that both valve systems operate during a power failure with Hi/Low heat and flame adjustment. IPI models pair with a ProFlame 2 remote for flame, fan, and thermostat control.
Installation: plan it early in the build
This is a zero-clearance fireplace, so the firebox frames directly against combustible walls — but unlike a single-sided unit, it is designed to be built into a wall separating two rooms so both faces finish cleanly. It is not an insert and does not require an existing masonry fireplace.
It requires a 5/8" direct-vent run terminating through an exterior wall or roof. Because the unit sits in an interior partition wall, that vent path has to travel somewhere — the single most common thing people discover too late. Resolve it with your builder before framing, not after. Installation should be performed by a licensed gas installer to meet local code and protect your warranty; requirements vary by configuration and jurisdiction.
Who it is for
The Clean View 43 See-Through suits open-concept homes, designer remodels, and new builds where the fireplace is meant to be seen from more than one room, and where you have a partition wall to build into.
If your fireplace sits against a single solid exterior wall, a standard clean-face unit like the Kingsman ZCV39 Clean View 39 is a better and considerably less expensive fit.
