General
What is a gas fireplace? ▼
A gas fireplace is a heating appliance that burns natural gas or liquid propane to produce real flames and radiant heat. Unlike wood-burning fireplaces, gas fireplaces ignite instantly, require no firewood, and produce minimal mess — making them one of the most convenient and efficient ways to heat and beautify a living space.
What fuel types do Kingsman gas fireplaces use? ▼
Kingsman gas fireplaces are available in both natural gas (NG) and liquid propane (LP) configurations. Most models are available in both fuel types — simply select your preference at the time of purchase. Converting between fuel types after installation requires a conversion kit and should be performed by a licensed technician.
How much heat does a gas fireplace produce? ▼
Kingsman gas fireplaces are built for serious heat output. Depending on the model, BTU ratings range from approximately 20,000 to over 50,000 BTUs per hour — capable of heating large living areas and open floor plans efficiently. Each product listing includes the specific BTU rating for that model.
Are gas fireplaces energy efficient? ▼
Yes. Direct vent gas fireplaces like those in the Kingsman lineup are highly efficient because they draw combustion air from outside and vent exhaust outdoors through a sealed two-pipe system. This means no conditioned indoor air is lost during operation. Many models achieve efficiency ratings above 70%.
What is the difference between natural gas and propane? ▼
Both fuels burn cleanly and produce real flames, but they differ in delivery method and BTU content. Natural gas is piped directly to your home through a utility line. Propane is stored in an on-site tank and refilled periodically. Propane has a higher BTU content per cubic foot, but natural gas is typically more convenient for homes with existing gas service.
Do gas fireplaces produce real flames? ▼
Yes — gas fireplaces produce real flames from a gas burner. The flame appearance varies by model: traditional models feature log sets with glowing embers, while linear models use glass media or stones for a contemporary look. All Kingsman models feature realistic, adjustable flame presentations.
Are Lumiflares products from authorized dealers? ▼
Yes. Lumiflares is a fully authorized dealer for every brand we carry — including Kingsman. This means you receive full manufacturer warranties, regulated pricing, and access to direct manufacturer support on every purchase.
Installation
Do gas fireplaces require professional installation? ▼
Yes. Gas fireplace installation must be performed by a licensed gas technician or HVAC professional. Connecting a gas appliance to your home's fuel supply requires permits and inspections in most jurisdictions. Lumiflares offers professional installation coordination — contact us and we'll connect you with a qualified installer in your area.
What venting is required for a Kingsman gas fireplace? ▼
Kingsman direct vent gas fireplaces use a sealed two-pipe venting system — one pipe draws fresh combustion air from outside, and a second pipe exhausts combustion gases back outdoors. This system requires no chimney and can be vented horizontally through an exterior wall or vertically through the roof. Our fireplace specialists can help you determine the best venting configuration for your space.
Can a gas fireplace be installed without a chimney? ▼
Yes. Kingsman direct vent gas fireplaces do not require a traditional chimney. They can be vented through an exterior wall using a horizontal termination cap, making them suitable for virtually any room in the home — including rooms on interior walls with a longer vent run.
What clearances are required around a gas fireplace? ▼
Clearance requirements vary by model and are specified in each product's installation manual. Generally, direct vent fireplaces require minimal clearances to combustible materials because the firebox is fully sealed. Always follow the manufacturer's installation specifications and local building codes.
Can I install a gas fireplace in an existing masonry fireplace opening? ▼
Yes. Kingsman offers direct vent gas fireplace inserts specifically designed to fit inside existing masonry or zero-clearance fireplace openings. This allows you to convert an old wood-burning fireplace into an efficient, clean-burning gas unit without major renovation.
Do I need a permit to install a gas fireplace? ▼
In most jurisdictions, yes. A permit is typically required for any gas appliance installation, including fireplaces. Your licensed installer will handle permit applications as part of the installation process. Requirements vary by city and state — contact your local building department for specifics.
What ignition options are available on Kingsman fireplaces? ▼
Kingsman offers two primary ignition systems: millivolt ignition, which operates independently of household electricity using a standing pilot light, and IPI (Intermittent Pilot Ignition), which ignites on demand and is more energy efficient. Some models also offer Proflame 2 remote control ignition systems for full electronic control.
Safety
Are gas fireplaces safe? ▼
Yes — when properly installed and maintained, gas fireplaces are very safe. Kingsman direct vent fireplaces use a fully sealed combustion chamber, meaning combustion gases are completely separated from your indoor air. The glass front remains hot during operation, so we recommend keeping children and pets at a safe distance.
Do gas fireplaces produce carbon monoxide? ▼
Direct vent gas fireplaces like Kingsman models vent all combustion byproducts — including carbon monoxide — directly outdoors through the sealed exhaust pipe. When properly installed and maintained, they do not release CO into your home. However, we strongly recommend installing a carbon monoxide detector in any home with a gas appliance as an additional safety measure.
Do I need a carbon monoxide detector with a gas fireplace? ▼
Yes — we recommend it. Even though Kingsman direct vent fireplaces are designed to vent all combustion gases outdoors, a CO detector is an essential safety device for any home with gas appliances. Place one on each level of your home and near sleeping areas.
Can I leave a gas fireplace on overnight? ▼
Kingsman gas fireplaces are designed for extended operation, but we recommend turning off the fireplace when you go to sleep or leave the home unattended. Many models include a programmable thermostat or timer function to automate shutoff. Always follow the manufacturer's guidelines for safe operation.
Is the glass front of a gas fireplace safe to touch? ▼
No. The ceramic glass front of a gas fireplace becomes very hot during operation and can cause burns on contact. Kingsman fireplaces include safety barriers or screens on applicable models. We recommend supervising children and pets around the fireplace at all times during operation.
What should I do if I smell gas near my fireplace? ▼
If you smell gas, do not attempt to operate the fireplace. Leave the home immediately, avoid using any electrical switches or devices, and call your gas utility company and 911 from outside. Do not re-enter the home until it has been cleared by a professional.

Maintenance & Care
How do I maintain my gas fireplace? ▼
Annual professional servicing is recommended for all gas fireplaces. A licensed technician will inspect the burner, check gas connections, clean the firebox and glass, test the ignition system, and verify that the venting is clear and properly sealed. Regular maintenance keeps your fireplace operating safely and efficiently for years.
How do I clean the glass on my gas fireplace? ▼
Allow the glass to cool completely before cleaning. Use a fireplace glass cleaner specifically designed for ceramic glass — avoid household glass cleaners, which can leave residue that burns onto the glass. Apply the cleaner with a soft cloth, wipe clean, and buff dry. Never clean hot glass.
How do I clean the interior of my gas fireplace? ▼
Turn off the fireplace and allow it to cool completely. Use a soft brush or vacuum with a brush attachment to gently remove dust and debris from the log set, burner pan, and firebox interior. Avoid disturbing the glowing ember material, as it is fragile. For deeper cleaning, contact a licensed technician.
What should I do if the pilot light goes out? ▼
Refer to your Kingsman owner's manual for pilot re-lighting instructions specific to your model. If you are unable to relight the pilot or if it goes out repeatedly, contact a licensed gas technician — repeated pilot outages can indicate a faulty thermocouple or gas pressure issue.
How often should I have my gas fireplace serviced? ▼
We recommend annual professional servicing before the start of each heating season. A licensed technician will inspect all components, clean the unit, check for gas leaks, and verify proper venting — ensuring your fireplace is safe and ready for use.
Should I turn off my gas fireplace in the summer? ▼
You can turn off the pilot light during warmer months to save gas. However, many homeowners choose to leave the standing pilot on year-round as it helps prevent moisture buildup inside the firebox. Consult your Kingsman owner's manual for summer shutdown recommendations specific to your model.
