Short answer: The Dimplex Revillusion 36 is a built-in electric firebox with the proportions of a traditional fireplace: a 36-inch opening, a log set and a brick or concrete interior you can see through the flames. It needs no venting, plugs into a standard 120 V outlet or hardwires at 240 V for more heat, and suits anyone who wants the look of a wood fire without a chimney. It needs a wall or enclosure about 12 1/2 in. deep.

What makes it different: you see into the firebox
Most electric fireplaces project a flame onto a screen at the back. The Revillusion uses a clear panel that reflects the flame so it appears to rise from within the log set, and you look through it to a real interior wall of brick or concrete. The ember bed glows from the back of the firebox, which gives the fire depth. The result reads as a hearth, not a picture of one.
You can dim the flames and the interior lighting, choose a warmer or cooler flame base, and run the fire with the heater off all year.
The heat
Plugged into a 120 V outlet the heater is 1,300 W. Hardwired at 240 V it nearly doubles to 2,575 W. As with any electric fireplace, that is supplemental heat for the room it is in. Heat output is the same across every Revillusion size, so choosing a bigger firebox changes the look, not the warmth. Our electrical requirements guide covers the circuit choices.
Installation
The Revillusion 36 is designed to be framed into a wall or enclosure. Frame the opening at 36 5/8 in. wide, 26 3/16 in. high and 12 1/2 in. deep. That depth is the main planning point: it is too deep for a standard stud wall, so it goes into a chase, a bump-out, a cabinet or an existing fireplace cavity. It can also be installed across a corner.

What is included
The firebox with your chosen interior, the front glass and magnetic trim, the log set and ember media, a 120 V plug kit and the remote. A trim kit is optional, and a 240 V hardwire needs a licensed electrician.
Limitations to know before you buy
- It needs about 12 1/2 in. of depth, more than twice what a slim linear unit needs.
- It is rated for indoor use only.
- The warranty is two years, shorter than on Dimplex's Ignite linear range.
- The stronger heat setting needs a 240 V circuit.
Price
As of October 2026 the Revillusion 36 is $2,721.99 in any of the four interiors. See the Revillusion 36 product page.
