Short answer: The Dimplex Ignite Evolve 50 is a slim, 50-inch linear electric fireplace built to recess into a wall. It needs no venting or gas line, runs on 120 V or 240 V, and puts out up to 8,530 BTU on 240 V. It suits bedrooms, studies and media walls where you want a modern flame with optional heat. Check your wall depth before you buy: a flush install needs a 2x6 wall.

What you get
The Evolve is a louverless linear fireplace: the heat comes out of a slot at the top front, so there is no grille on the face. The flame effect has seven color themes and five speeds, the ember bed has eight color themes, and the media set includes driftwood logs and tumbled glass. Flame and heat work independently, so you can run the fire all year with the heater off.
Controls are on the unit, on the included remote and in the Dimplex app.
The heat
On a 120 V circuit the heater is 1,500 W, about 5,100 BTU. Wired at 240 V it is 2,500 W, about 8,500 BTU. That is the difference between taking the chill off a bedroom and adding real supplemental warmth to a larger room, so decide on the voltage before the wall is closed. Our electrical requirements guide explains the circuit options.
Every size in the Evolve range has the same heater. A bigger Evolve gives you more flame, not more heat.
The detail most buyers miss: wall depth
The fireplace is 5 3/4 in. deep. To sit flush it needs a framing depth of 5 1/2 in., which means a 2x6 wall or a built-out chase. In a standard 2x4 wall it only recesses 3 1/2 in., and the optional trim kit covers the part that projects. Our Evolve planning guide walks through both installs.
Where it can go
Dimplex approves the Evolve for indoor use and for covered outdoor locations. The warranty is five years indoors and one year outdoors, so plan around that if it is going on a covered patio.
Limitations to know before you buy
- A flush install needs a 2x6 wall or a chase.
- The full 8,530 BTU needs a 240 V circuit run by an electrician.
- Like every electric fireplace, it is supplemental heat. It will not replace a furnace.
Price
As of October 2026 the Ignite Evolve 50 is $3,599.99, with the trim kit for 2x4 walls about $195 more. See the Ignite Evolve 50 product page.
Who should buy it
A good fit if you want a modern linear fire in a bedroom, study or media wall and have, or can build, a wall deep enough.
Look elsewhere if you want a traditional log fire in a deep firebox, in which case see Revillusion vs Ignite Evolve, or if the wall is long enough for a wider unit: the 60 in., 74 in. and 100 in. use the same depth and heater.
Frequently asked questions
How much heat does the Ignite Evolve 50 put out?
1,500 W (5,118 BTU) on 120 V, or 2,500 W (8,530 BTU) on 240 V.
Does it need venting?
No. It is electric and needs no vent, chimney or gas line.
Will it fit in a 2x4 wall?
Partly. It recesses 3 1/2 in. and the optional trim kit finishes the projection. A fully flush install needs 5 1/2 in. of framing depth.
