Short answer: The Dimplex Ignite Aspire 48 is a large built-in electric firebox with the proportions of a grand traditional fireplace: a viewing area 48 in. wide and 40 in. tall. It needs no venting or gas, has glowing logs and fire sound, and carries a five-year parts and service warranty. It is a statement piece for a big wall, it needs a deep framed opening, and it is not an insert for an existing fireplace.

What makes it different: the scale
Most electric fireplaces are long and low. The Aspire is built like a gas or wood firebox: tall, deep and meant to be framed into a mantel surround or a feature wall. At the 48 in. size the glass is 40 in. high, which is larger than most real fireplaces.
The fire uses Dimplex's Dynamic-Fire effect with three natural flame colors that can be combined, logs with an inner glow that pulses with the ember bed, and three crackling sound options. The logs can be repositioned.
The heat
The heater is 1,500 W on 120 V or 2,500 W on 240 V, the same as the rest of the Ignite range. In a room big enough for a 48 in. firebox, treat that as supplemental warmth. The heater can also be permanently disabled if you only want the flame. See our electrical requirements guide.
Installation
Frame the opening at 48 3/4 in. wide, 50 in. high and 18 in. deep. That is a substantial cavity: plan a chase or a deep surround. It can be installed fully recessed and front-facing, or with open sides using a separate trim kit. The unit is direct-wired by a licensed electrician.
It is a built-in firebox, not an insert. It is not designed to slide into an existing masonry fireplace. If you are converting an old fireplace, read replacing a gas fireplace with electric and send us the opening dimensions first.
Limitations to know before you buy
