Dimplex Ignite XL 74 Review: A Six-Foot Linear Fire for the Media Wall

Short answer: The Dimplex Ignite XL 74 is a slim, 74-inch linear electric fireplace made for media walls. It is under 6 in. deep, sits flush in a 2x6 wall, needs no venting, and is the lowest-priced way to get a six-foot Dimplex linear flame. Choose it when you want a clean ribbon of fire under a large TV and do not need logs, sound or app control.

What you get

The Ignite XL has edge-to-edge glass with no frame around it and Dimplex's Multi-Fire XD flame effect over a bed of clear acrylic embers. Controls are on the unit and on the remote. A driftwood and river rock kit is available if you prefer a log look.

At 74 in. it is sized to sit under a 75 to 85 in. television without looking small.

The wall it needs

The framing opening is 74 5/8 in. wide, 16 in. high and 5 1/2 in. deep. That depth means a 2x6 wall for a flush fit. In a 2x4 wall the optional trim kit finishes the part that projects. Our planning guide for slim Ignite fireplaces covers both installs, and designing a media wall has layout ideas.

The heat

Heat output is 5,118 BTU on 120 V and 8,530 BTU at 240 V, the same as every other size in the range. In a room that suits a 74 in. fireplace, that is supplemental warmth. Flame and heat run independently, so most owners use the fire year-round and the heater when needed. See our electrical requirements guide before the electrician arrives.

Limitations to know before you buy

  • The viewing height is about 12 in., so it reads as a band of flame, not a tall fire.
  • Logs are an optional kit, and there is no fire sound.
  • A flush install needs a 2x6 wall.
  • Outdoor installation shortens the warranty to one year.

Price

As of October 2026 the Ignite XL 74 is $3,699.99, with the trim kit about $271 more. See the Ignite XL 74 product page.

Who should buy it

A good fit if you want a long, clean linear fire under a big TV at a sensible price.

Look elsewhere if you want more flame options, logs and app control, or a deeper, taller fire: see Ignite XL vs Evolve vs Ultra. For a corner or three-sided install, see Ignite XL vs XL Bold.
