SimpliFire Allusion Slim vs Platinum vs Edge: Which One Fits Your Wall?

SimpliFire Allusion Edge linear electric fireplace with glass crystals and a dancing flame effect, recessed in a bedroom wall

Short answer: All three SimpliFire Allusion series are recessed linear electric fireplaces with the same heater: 120 volts, 1,500 watts, about 5,000 BTU. What separates them is the wall they need and the flame they show. Choose the Allusion Slim if you want to recess into an ordinary 2x4 wall. Choose the Allusion Platinum for a simple crystal-and-stone look at a moderate price in a 2x6 wall. Choose the Allusion Edge if the flame itself is the priority: it has four digital flame styles, sound effects, glowing logs and Wi-Fi app control, at more than twice the price of the other two.

Specifications are from SimpliFire's 2026 price book, cross-checked against the Allusion Platinum installation manual, the Allusion Slim architect guide and Heat & Glo's Allusion pages (sources at the end). Where the manual and price book differ slightly, as on the Platinum's framing depth, we show the manual's figure.

The real deciding question: what wall do you have?

Every Allusion is installed "post-paint": you frame and finish the opening first, then slide the fireplace in. That makes wall depth the first filter.

  • Standard 2x4 interior wall: only the Slim recesses into it. At about 4 in. deep, it is SimpliFire's answer to "I don't want to build out the wall."
  • 2x6 wall, or a new build-out: any of the three will work, so the choice comes down to the flame and budget.
  • Finished wall you don't want to open: SimpliFire offers surface-mount kits for some sizes: Boyd post-completion kits for the 50-inch Platinum and Edge, and Crestline kits for the 50 and 60-inch Slim. Check that a kit exists for the exact size before you commit.

Tile or stone finish? The Edge accepts the thickest finish, up to 1-1/2 in. The Slim needs an optional bracket for tile.

Heat is the same, so don't pay for it

The three series share an identical electrical rating at every width: 120 V and 1,500 W. A 72-inch Slim heats no more than a 50-inch one, and the Edge heats no more than the Platinum. None of the three has a 240 V option. That keeps installation simple, since a standard 120 V circuit works, but it also caps heat at about 5,000 BTU.

If you want more warmth from an electric fireplace, look at a dual-voltage model such as the SimpliFire Scion or Triton, which reach about 10,000 BTU at 240 V. Our guide to what an electric fireplace costs to run shows what that means on the electric bill.

Who each one suits

Allusion Slim

A good fit if you're adding a fireplace to an existing 2x4 wall, a bedroom or a condo, and want colorful flames and a log look without building out the wall. Less suited if you want app control or plan a thick tile surround without the extra bracket.

Allusion Platinum

A good fit if you want a clean, modern crystal or white-stone bed with adjustable ember colors in a 2x6 wall, at a price close to the Slim. Less suited if you want a log look out of the box (driftwood logs are an optional add-on) or app control.

Allusion Edge

A good fit if the fireplace is the focal point and you'll notice the flame quality: four flame styles, crackle sounds, glowing logs included and Wi-Fi control. It's also the only one offered at 78 and 100 inches for long media walls. Less suited if budget matters more than flame realism, since the heat and wall depth are no better than the Platinum's.

Price

As of October 17, 2026, the 50-inch models start at $1,418.99 (Slim), $1,628.99 (Platinum) and $3,958.99 (Edge) on Lumiflares. Prices rise with width and options; check each product page for the size you need.

Quick checklist before you order

  1. Measure the stud depth of the wall: 2x4 or 2x6?
  2. Decide the finish (drywall, shiplap, tile, stone) and its total thickness.
  3. Confirm the exact framing dimensions in the installation manual for the size you're buying.
  4. Decide on plug-in or hardwire, and whether the circuit is dedicated. See our electrical requirements guide.
  5. Pick the look: colorful flames (Slim), crystals and stones (Platinum), or realistic digital flame with sound (Edge).

Common questions

Can I plug an Allusion in?

Yes. All three ship ready to hardwire, with a plug-in cord kit included. Plug it directly into a properly grounded outlet, not an extension cord.

Can I run the flame without heat?

Yes. The heat can be switched off on all three, so the flame can run year-round.
