How to Choose Your Dimplex Electric Fireplace

Dimplex builds two very different kinds of electric fireplace: wide linear built-ins and traditional fireboxes. Start with the shape of fire you want, then confirm size, installation, and power.

1

Pick Your Series & Style

  • —IgniteXL — The core linear built-in, 50" to 100", with edge-to-edge glass and the patented Multi-Fire XD® flame. Best for a clean, modern feature wall.
  • —IgniteXL Bold — Two- and three-sided configurations for corner, bay, and peninsula installs. Best when the fire needs to be visible from more than one room.
  • —Ignite Evolve — Added flame depth and a wider color range over the standard linear. Best when flame realism is the deciding factor.
  • —Ignite Ultra — Ultra-wide linear formats for large, open rooms and long feature walls.
  • —Ignite Aspire — A built-in firebox in portrait and landscape formats. Best for a contained, framed fire rather than a wide band.
  • —Revillusion — A traditional firebox with Realogs® logs and a reflective flame panel that makes flames appear to rise from within the logs. Best for building a classic framed hearth.
2

Choose Your Size

  • —30" – 48" (Revillusion & Aspire fireboxes) — For a classic hearth-sized fire in small-to-mid rooms.
  • —50" – 74" (linear) — The most common range for a living-room feature wall.
  • —88" – 100" (linear) — For great rooms and long, uninterrupted walls.

Framing dimensions differ from the fireplace's overall width. Send us your rough opening and we'll confirm the fit before you order.

3

Plan Installation & Power

  • —Built-In — Recesses into a framed wall for a flush, finished face.
  • —Wall depth — Most IgniteXL models recess into a 2x6 stud wall, or a 2x4 wall with the optional trim kit.
  • —Power — Select models run 120V plug-in or 240V hardwired; 240V delivers the higher heat output.
  • —No venting required — No gas line, no chimney, no combustion, no clearance-to-flue restrictions.
4

Set the Flame & Media

  • —Media — Linear models take a driftwood & river rock kit or decorative media; Revillusion ships with a traditional log set.
  • —Heat, independent of flame — Run the fire year-round with the heater off, or add supplemental warmth when you want it.
  • —Control — Included remote, with app control via Flame Connect on select models.

Frequently Asked Questions

QWhat size Dimplex fireplace do I need?

Size by the wall, not by heat output. These are supplemental heaters rather than a primary heat source, so the deciding factor is the space you want the fire to fill. Fireboxes in the 30"–48" range suit standard hearth openings and small-to-mid rooms; 50"–74" linear models are the common choice for a living-room feature wall; 88"–100" models are built for great rooms. Important: the framing dimension is not the same as the fireplace's overall width — send us your rough opening and we'll confirm before you order.

QDo I need a gas line or venting?

No. Every fireplace in this collection is fully electric — no gas line, no venting, no chimney, and no combustion. That means none of the flue clearances or code restrictions that come with gas, so these can go in bedrooms, basements, condos, and interior walls where a gas fireplace isn't practical.

QWhat's the difference between IgniteXL, Bold, Evolve, Ultra, Aspire, and Revillusion?

IgniteXL is the core single-sided linear built-in. IgniteXL Bold adds two- and three-sided configurations for corner, bay, and peninsula walls. Ignite Evolve layers in additional flame depth and color range. Ignite Ultra covers the ultra-wide linear formats. Ignite Aspire is a built-in firebox in portrait and landscape formats. Revillusion is a traditional built-in firebox with Realogs® logs and a reflective flame panel that makes flames appear to rise from within the logs, for building a classic framed hearth. If you're torn between two, call us — the choice usually comes down to how many sides you need and whether you want a wide band of fire or a contained one.

QPlug-in or hardwired — and what about 240V?

Select models support both. A standard 120V outlet is the simplest install; hardwiring gives a clean, cord-free finish. Some models also offer 240V operation, which roughly doubles the heat output — if you want the fireplace to do real heating work, that's the configuration to plan for, and it needs to be wired in before the wall is closed up. Each product page lists the electrical requirements for that model.

QHow does shipping and delivery work?

Every order ships free via insured freight carrier, delivered curbside to your address with free liftgate service included. In-stock orders leave the warehouse in 1–3 business days. You'll get tracking, and we recommend a quick look at the packaging before you sign.

QWhat warranty comes with a Dimplex fireplace?

Every unit is backed by the Glen Dimplex Americas manufacturer's limited warranty, and as an authorized Dimplex dealer we coordinate any claim on your behalf — we file it, source the parts, and manage the process with the manufacturer. Coverage varies by series: the IgniteXL models (XLF50, XLF60, XLF74, XLF100) carry a 5-year limited warranty that includes on-site or in-home service, excluding trims and accessory kits. Terms differ on the other series, so ask us for the exact warranty statement on the model you're considering and we'll send it before you buy.
