Short answer: Choose the Kingsman linear by heat first and wall width second. The 36 in. model tops out at 17,500 BTU, the 47 in. at 24,500 BTU and the 60 in. at 35,000 BTU, and none of them turns down very far. The 60's lowest natural gas setting puts out more heat than the 36 does on high, so the widest unit is only right for a room that can absorb it.

Step 1: check what the wall can take
The 36 and 47 frame close to their names. The 60 does not: it needs a rough opening 66 9/16 in. wide and 43 in. high, so plan on a wall well over six feet wide once you allow for studs and finish on each side.
Depth barely changes across the range, from 17 1/2 in. to 19 1/4 in., so a chase that is deep enough for one is close to deep enough for all three.
Step 2: match the heat to the room
This is where most buyers go wrong. A wider fireplace is not just a bigger picture; it is a bigger burner that you cannot turn down far.
- On natural gas, each model's low setting is roughly two thirds of its maximum.
- On propane the range is narrower still, with low fire at about 80 percent of maximum.
- The 47's low fire on natural gas (16,500 BTU) is almost the same as the 36 running flat out (17,500 BTU).
- The 60's low fire on natural gas (23,000 BTU) is higher than the 36's maximum.
In practice: a 60 in a modest living room will look right and feel too warm. If you love the wide look but the room is average, the 47 is usually the better compromise. All three are rated as supplemental heat, and a blower is an optional fan kit on each. Our sizing guide walks through the room math.
Step 3: understand the venting difference
The 36 and 47 use 4 in. / 7 in. co-axial vent. The 60 steps up to 5 in. / 8 in. pipe, which is larger to route through framing and costs more per foot. If you are comparing installed quotes, expect the 60's venting line to be higher for the same run.
The 36 is also the most forgiving on height. Kingsman allows a low enclosure of 46 1/2 in. on natural gas with the flue restrictor removed, which makes it the one to look at under a window or a low bulkhead. For the 47 and 60, Kingsman lists minimum enclosure heights of 70 in. and 76 in. when the chase is ventilated to reduce wall temperatures and mantel clearances. Have your installer confirm the enclosure and vent rise against the manual for the exact model before framing.
Step 4: look at the price steps
Moving from the 36 to the 47 adds about $1,496. Moving from the 47 to the 60 adds about $951. IPI ignition adds $450 on any size. So if your wall and room can take the 60, the jump from the 47 is the smaller of the two steps, before venting.
Which one should you choose?
- 36 in. Bedrooms, offices, dens and smaller living rooms; tight or low enclosures; the lowest total cost. Read the full ZCVRB3622 review or see the 36 in. product page.
- 47 in. Most standard living rooms; the best balance of presence and heat. See the 47 in. product page.
- 60 in. Great rooms and open plans with the wall width and volume to match. Read the ZCVRB60 review or see the 60 in. product page.
One shipping note: we cannot currently sell or ship the 36 in. and 47 in. models to New York State.
Frequently asked questions
Is the 60 in. model actually 60 inches wide?
The glass is about 60 in. wide, but the framing opening is 66 9/16 in. wide. Always plan from the framing dimension.
Can I put a bigger linear fireplace in and just run it on low?
Only to a point. Low fire on these units is about two thirds of maximum on natural gas and about 80 percent on propane, so an oversized unit will still put out a lot of heat.
Do all three use the same vent pipe?
No. The 36 and 47 use 4 in. / 7 in. vent. The 60 uses 5 in. / 8 in.
Do they come with a blower or remote?
No. The fan kit and remote controls are optional on all three sizes.
